Pablo showed his passion and skill in drawing from an early age, and his mother used to say that one of Pablo's first words meant 'pencil'. At the age of seven, Pablo received formal training in painting and oil painting by his father, and Ruiz was a traditional artist and academic professor which led him to believe that the ideal training depended on disciplined copying, drawing human bodies from living models. Thus Pablo became preoccupied with painting at the expense of his studies. In 1891 the family moved to A Coruña, where the father became a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts, and they stayed there for about four years. On one occasion, Pablo, at the age of thirteen, completed drawing one of the sketches that his father had not finished yet, and the painting was a dove, and when the father examined his son’s technique in drawing, he felt that his son had surpassed him, and announced at the time that he had given up the drawing despite the presence of his paintings. Later.

In 1895 Pablo was severely shocked after the death of his younger sister, seven years old, after contracting diphtheria, and after her death the family moved again to Barcelona, where the father worked there as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, and Pablo began to thrive again while keeping him on sadness and nostalgia for the true homeland. .

The father persuaded the officials at the academy to allow his son to sit the entrance examination to the advanced level, which usually took a month, but Picasso completed them in one week, which impressed the jury of Picasso, who was thirteen years old at the time. Picasso lacked discipline, but he was able to make many friendships that influenced his later life.

His father rented a small room for him next to the house in which Picasso could work on his own, and his father visited him several times a day and examined his drawings, and sometimes discussed some things with him. Then Picasso's father and uncle decided to send him to the Royal Madrid Academy in San Fernando, the most important painting academy in the country.

At the age of sixteen, Picasso began to stay in the city at his expense for the first time, but after enrolling at the Academy, he began to hate the formal system of education and began to drop lectures. Although Madrid had many attractions, such as the Prado Museum with works by Diego Velázquez, Francisco Goya, and Francesco Sorbarán, Picasso especially admired the works of El Greco (of Greek origin) for their striking colors, elongated limbs, and mysterious features, which It was influenced by Picasso and appeared in his later works.
